Dahlia went over to the windows and looked out over the city. I was so engrossed in what I was writing that I wasn't aware of it ringing just like it's always be. I got up from my study chair and walked to the nightstand. I withdrew my phone, and sighed as I stared at it. Cassandra is calling. </div><div><br></div><div>  I really love my mother, but sometimes, answering her calls always mess with my head, and considering what I'm doing at the moment, I need my thoughts and mind together. But, I still know that I'll answer it anyway. I pressed the answer button. </div><div><br></div><div>  "You got lost in yourself again, Mimi! That's why you didn't even know that I was calling." My mother's familiar voice rang in my ears and I rolled my eyes. I didn't need to say anything at that one. </div><div><br></div><div>   "Good afternoon to you too, Cass. How are you doing today?" I said cheerfully to keep her mind off the next thing I can predict she wanted to say. </div><div><br></div><div>  I heard her exhale slowly and I smiled, because I know that she will dropped the topic. Just enjoying the nice air in Folsom City....Aaaah, this feels so good." she breathed out the last.</div><div><br></div><div>  I stared at the phone with a smile on my face. I couldn't help the smile that formed my lips. I'm amused, but she shouldn't know. "I'm twenty-six not forty-five, thank you very much, mother. You're the one who's forty-five, and if you really think WE ain't getting any younger, then go get married, I'll happily cheer you on."</div><div><br></div><div>  She went silent. But knowing my mother, the silence never lasts. </div><div><br></div><div>   "Just once. See him just once, Mimi. If you don't wanna have anything to do with him, I'll respect your decision." she said.</div><div><br></div><div>  I inhaled sharply. "You've already set me up with him, right? I knew it. I knew you've set a blind date for me again, even after you promised that it won't happen again! Mother!" This time around I wasn't amused. After the last disastrous blind date, Cass finally admitted that she sucks at matchmaking, and promised she won't try to set me on dates again. </div><div><br></div><div>  "It's only this one last time. I won't do it again, I promise!" she paused before she added, "And call me my name, young lady, not mother. You've said it twice now!" she added. </div><div><br></div><div>  Even though I wanna stay angry at her, I know that I can't. It's been just her and I for as long as I can remember. "I'm sorry, but you owe me an apology too."</div><div><br></div><div>   "I'm sorry for setting you on another date." she said and I could mentally see her biting her lips, before she added, "But you'll be going, right?"</div><div><br></div><div>  If I say no, she'll start lecturing me on how rude and unladylike it is to keep a man standing and so on. It's on Saturday. Same place as the last and same time. Oh, and don't be late this time around." she added, excitedly. </div><div><br></div><div>  After I hung up the call, I glared hard at my phone. My mother really sucks at matchmaking. But, it doesn't stop her from trying. I said quietly, showing Dave into his room that I've already had prepared for him. </div><div><br></div><div>  He entered into the room and looked around, then he turned and smiled up at me. "I like it, daddy." </div><div><br></div><div>  I nodded, joining him in the room, I walked to the wardrobe and dropped his bags inside it. "Change into something comfortable and join me in the dinning room for lunch."</div><div><br></div><div>  "Okay, daddy." he said, still looking at me. He didn't even make any move to start pulling his clothes. Even as I turned to walk out of the room, he was still staring at me as if I'll disappear if he stops looking. </div><div><br></div><div>  I walked back to him and sat on my hunches, to become the same height with him. I held his small hands, "I'm not going anywhere, Dave. At least, not for some time." I raised one large hand and rested it to his cheek, "I know I've not always been there for you, but I'm here now. And I'll always be here for you from now on." </div><div><br></div><div>  His lower lips trembled slightly. Then, he wrapped his arms around my neck tight. "Promise?"</div><div><br></div><div>  I swallowed hard against the lump in my throat. "Cross my heart." I swore. I've already considered getting a live-in housekeeper in the house to help with cooking, cleaning and other stuffs, but I reconsidered because I wanted to spent some bonding time with my son. Instead I got a part-time housekeeper that'll be coming two times in a week. </div><div><br></div><div>  "Love you, daddy." he whispered, still clinging to my neck. </div><div><br></div><div>  I don't mind that he was clingy at all, even though he's a boy and will one-day grow up to be a man that should stand on his own.  </div><div>   </div><div>   Having had a father that was hardly there for him and a heartless bitch for a mother, it's obvious Dave has been starved for attention and affection. I promise to make up for all that. </div><div><br></div><div>  I stared at his cute flawless face. I stopped seeing handprints on his body when I started fighting to gain custody of him in court three months ago, because I threatened Ashley that I'll lock her up in jail if I see a scratch on him again. How a mother can be so wicked to her own flesh and blood is beyond me. </div><div><br></div><div>   I ruffled his curly hair, "Love you too, buddy." The groom kept smiling back at her and they kept exchanging smiles as though they will never have the chance to do it again.</div><div>“For as long as we both shall leave.”</div><div>The priest said.</div><div>“For as long as we both shall live.”</div><div>The bride said after him, still smiling.</div><div>Kendra watched the new couple exchange vows and recalled how she had stood at this same altar and exchanged the same vows with her husband.</div><div>For as long as we both shall live… Those words were lovely but tricky. When you spend you married life with the person you said those words with and then realise afterwards that if you had seen it coming you wouldn’t have said those words. Kendra felt like standing up from her seat, walking up to the bride who was her best friend and tell her to snap out of it! She had once been the kind if girl who dreamed of a happily ever after kind of marriage with kids running around you and your husband telling you that you are the best thing that has ever happened to him, and when she met her husband three years ago at the age of eighteen, he was the most handsome man she had ever seen and he reeked of wealth. She had met Connor at a wedding like this and she had been the VIP guest. He had approach her to ask if the seat beside her was empty and she had said no. Kendra could still replay the whole scene in her head even in her grave. They had started talking from there and exchanged numbers. That was how she found out that he was the owner of a big pharmaceutical company in the city and he was still very young!</div><div>He got her heart immediately. And they got married in three months. She fell head over heels in love.</div><div>Till death do us part…She still thought of that world now and wished death would really take her away from the man she married. The beast she lived with. Her marriage was the kind every woman dreamed of. She had every thing at her beckon call…except one thing…Happiness.</div><div>Kendra smiled now and clapped along with the others as the groom moved to kiss the bride….Aliyah…her best friend who, unlike her had played cool until she had found the love of her life.</div><div>Kendra was still yet to find her life much less to find love because right now her life was in shambles. She turned to her husband, Connor. He looked like the most gentle man any woman can wish for as he clapped his hands and cheered the couple like he were a saint. Her smile seem like it had been painted…like a fake one.</div><div>They had all driven off to the reception and were entertaining themselves when someone came to her and asked if the seat beside her was empty. She looked at the one at her right, hoping that her husband had seen what just happened. But he was not there with her. He had probably gone to the toilet to ease himself or stepped out to answer a call or something. Then she turned to look up at the person who spoke. It wasn’t until then, she saw that it was a man. A really handsome man. Kendra frowned. What was the problem with big men and empty seats, she thought.</div><div>“No. its empty.”</div><div>She said to him and he said his thanks and sat beside her. His Cologne passed through her nose like a flowery scent and she sniffed. She had a large description of him immediately. He was so light in complexion and didn’t look more than twenty eight or thirty. She saw that from his well tailored suit,he was a master of money him self. And she looked down at the two big phones he carried as he was seriously busy with one, they were classy and the young man had swags. But she wasn’t interested in handsome men anymore. The one who married her and treated her like trash was enough for her to hate men. She turned to her drink and sipped absent mindedly. Then he looked up at her and smiled.</div><div>“Hi.”</div><div>He said. She looked at him and nodded without smiling, hoping to give him the wrong vibes but its either he didn’t see it or he doesn’t understand.</div><div>“Are you a friend to the bride or the groom?”</div><div>“Are you the receptionist?”</div><div>She asked coldly. This man should not come and put me in trouble o, she thought. Her husband was a gorilla himself. The young man laughed.</div><div>“Very funny.”</div><div>She hadn’t intended for it to be funny so she frowned.</div><div>“I’m Alexander Macaulay. Or Alex, whichever suits you best.”</div><div>Her head snapped in different electric sparks and she faced him.</div><div>“What do you want?”</div><div>He raised his eyebrows. “Hey, relax. I’m just trying to make a conversation. I’m a friend to the groom.”</div><div>“I’m a friend to the bride. She’s my best friend from the university.”</div><div>“Oh really? Are you still a student?”</div><div>“No.”</div><div>She said and turned to her drink immediately. He looked at her for a while then he turned to his phone. She kept sipping her drink as if it was what she came here for. She had been rude but she couldn’t help it. If he thinks he can talk his handsome fave into my brains,she thought. Her husband came up and sat beside her. She smiled at him but he didn’t smile back. Trouble. She wondered what had happened now for him to change so soon like this. Her heart started beating fast. Then the time came for the bride and the groom to dance. Alex turned to her again.</div><div>“So, if you’re a friend to the bride why didn’t I see you at the engagement party last week?” He said and smirked. Oh Lawd Have Mercy! She turned to her husband and he was smoking fire. She turned to Alex and forced a chuckle. “I didn’t attend. I wasn’t able to.”</div><div>Last week she had been in the hospital because her husband had beaten her to a pulp. So she couldn’t go to her friend’s party looking like an over ripe tomato.</div><div>Her husband stood up and said it was time to leave, she stood up and walked with him without a side glance at the guy beside her who looked at her confused, or a goodbye to her friend who had expected her to stay till the end of the wedding. She got into her husband’s car and he drove home like a mad man and in silence. She knew better than to utter a word. When he got home and they’d stepped in, the whole house was quiet and they maids had all gone to bed. He walked in to the middle of the room and turned to her. She looked startled at him. His face was hard and ugly. The handsome man was gone. The devil had surfaced.</div><div><br></div><div>“Honey what’s…”</div><div>Her words were sent back into her mouth with the back of his hand and the force of his back handed slap hit her down to the floor and she hit her cheek on the hard cushion of the chair on her way down….</div>

WOMAN-HATER</b>.😡 </div><div><br></div><div>🙄BRADLEY💦</div><div><br></div><div>  A long time ago, I came to a decision that I wasn't a morning person. Morning sucks all the fucking time. </div><div><br></div><div>  Especially when I was still with Ashley. I didn't only get to hate mornings. I hated afternoons. And nights too. I hated every fucking day. </div><div><br></div><div>  I'm very used to hiding my emotions and frankly, there ain't much to hide because I don't feel much anymore. </div><div><br></div><div>But, I still can't forget the happiness that coursed through me the day our divorce was finalized four months ago. Even though I had to part with a huge amount of money to the money-craver Ashley as her divorce settlement, I still felt very happy. </div><div><br></div><div>  But, the euphoria of the feeling didn't last long because I started fighting for another thing almost instantly. To gain custody for my son. </div><div><br></div><div>  The same familiar feeling I've come to know well as guilt settled deep inside me as I thought of my six-year-old boy. </div><div><br></div><div>  Dave is a very nice kid and I love him with all my battered heart, but I haven't been much of a father to him. Going on a lot of business trips over the years__staying away from Ashley as best as I could__I didn't get to see much of my son and I never knew that he was also a victim of Ashley's wickedness until it was almost too late. </div><div><br></div><div>  I still remember that afternoon five months ago that I came back from a business trip from France, far more early than I told Ashley that I'll be. </div><div><br></div><div>  I still remember the shock on my face to see a large hand imprinted on Dave's little cheek. I still remember the boy's relief as he saw me and the way he squeaked "Daddy!" with wide eyes and climbed into my arms tightening and pushing into me as if he wished to disappear into the large expanse of my chest and never get out. </div><div><br></div><div>  I still remember the rage that coursed through my body when I confronted Ashley about it, demanding answers. I know she meant to lie to me just like she used to but she must have seen something in my eyes and decided that lying won't be a smart thing to do. She'd told me that her 'friend' had gotten angry and unintentionally hit our son. </div><div><br></div><div>  "You know Dave can be very annoying sometimes..." she'd said nonchalantly. When she saw that I was barely tittering at the edge of an uncontrollable rage, she'd quickly added, "But Morris didn't mean it, I swear. He was very regretful and remorseful afterwards, he apologized to Dave."</div><div><br></div><div>  It was afterwards that I found out that Morris was her current boyfriend and apparently she'd had a lot of them over the years. I wasn't even surprised when I found out. Our seven years marriage stopped working five years ago when I found that Ashley was just a lying manipulative money-craving slut that apparently married me because she wanted to live in riches. She'd said so herself in one of our arguments. </div><div><br></div><div>  She was a very poor girl when I met her, but I'd sincerely thought she loved me. I am man enough to admit to myself that Ashley fooled me very very well, that I completely thought she loved me. Then, she'd lied to me that she was on the pill. Only, she wasn't and that was how she got pregnant with Dave. I knew I had to marry her because I loved her and wanted to give my child a name. </div><div><br></div><div>  "I know that's the only way to tie a man like you. If I hadn't gotten pregnant with the little fool you wouldn't have married me." she'd rubbed it to my face during our last argument. </div><div><br></div><div>  Seven years in marriage with Ashley, I found out that I have grown to hate women. Really hate women. A very raw hatred.</div><div><br></div><div>  Long story cut short, it didn't take long into our marriage for me to start seeing the true Ashley. But seeing her treatment of my son, that was my undoing. If I didn't know better I'll think that she didn't give birth to Dave. It was an ugly divorce and an even uglier fight for custody. Ashley wanted to keep Dave not out of motherly love, but she keeps that if she gains custody, I'll be sending a huge amount of money every month to her for child support. </div><div><br></div><div>  When my son chose me who's never really been there for him over being with his mother, it shattered what's left of my heart and I knew I had to fight tooth and nail to gain custody of him. </div><div><br></div><div>  And I did fight. And I won the fight yesterday.</div><div><br></div><div>  Today, I'm on my way to pick Dave from Ashley's. He will be moving in with me. I swore that I'll make up for all the lost years with him, and even though I don't know shit about kids, I'll damn well learn. </div><div><br></div><div> I was almost done answering the call of my manager, telling him to handle things right because I won't be at the office today.  I'd almost reached my car when I heard the familiar movement behind me. I swiveled my head to see my 'neighbor' again. I bit back the anger I felt and quietly pocketed my phone. </div><div><br></div><div>  The woman's sense of dressing sucks more than her ruffled hair that looks like spikes on her head, even though she's got a very long curly hair. </div><div><br></div><div>  I might hate women and their guts, but I still got eyes, and I know a beautiful woman when I see one. Miriam Lopez is beautiful. She isn't exactly slim but she's not even on the thick side. Even though she's always in a pajamas, I know that shapeless silk is hiding curves. Mouthwatering curves and even a more killer boobs.</div><div><br></div><div>  Too bad, I don't give shit. </div><div><br></div><div>  "Good moooooorning." She singsonged as she walked closer to me with a bright smile on her face.</div><div><br></div><div>  She knew I wouldn't answer. I never do. Yet, she always comes out and greets all the damn time. I don't know why she does that. I learnt a long time ago that you can never understand women and the smartest thing to do is not to even try. </div><div><br></div><div>  Perfectly okay with the one-sided conversation, she continued. "I see you're on your way to work again. I almost thought you won't be coming out today, but here you are." she was saying....that smile still unwavering on her face. </div><div><br></div><div>  I gritted my teeth. Another reason I hate seeing my neighbor is that she's a morning person. I mean, who smiles this huge after waking up from sleep? Even after I drink coffee, I don't smile this way. Okay, the truth is that I don't smile at all. But still. </div><div><br></div><div>  The only set of people that can look at me and smile this way is my employees at work. But only because they're putting in an extra effort not be fired. </div><div><br></div><div>  "Did you hear about the gathering at the Smiths on Sunday? They live just down the streets. It'll be the right thing to do to show up there, you know. Every other person around here would."</div><div><br></div><div>  I don't really know what gave her idea that I wanna do the right thing. I just kept staring at her. That's what I do every damn time she stands in front of me and try to make small talks.  </div><div>   </div><div>  Looking at her is not really a hustle, because the woman is very easy on the eyes. I don't know why I don't just enter my car whenever I see her. I don't know why I stand there every damn time to look at her and listen to her annoyingly melodic voice. </div><div><br></div><div>  She narrowed her eyes, "You know, if I don't know better, I'll think you don't talk at all. But, you do....you were just answering calls a few minutes ago, and Mrs Nancy said that even though you didn't say much, she talked with you when you were buying the house." she shook her head, "No, you can talk. You just like being an asshole to me." she was still smiling even as she says it. </div><div><br></div><div>  Something about her just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's her beauty, that reminds me that Ashley was just as beautiful. Or clear noticeable difference between them.</div><div><br></div><div>   Where Ashley is a slow dangerous poison that doesn't talk much and don't give a damn if you show her any attention as far as you get money whenever and how ever she wants it, this woman seemed to be a talkative and doesn't take it well if she's ignored.</div><div><br></div><div>  Hell, I don't even know why the heavenly fuck I'm comparing these two women. I just hate women so damn much.</div><div><br></div><div> The worst part is that she knows that I don't wanna talk to her.....I can see the wicked glint in her eyes. I HAVE A NEW NEIGHBOR.😳</div><div><br></div><div>MIRIAM'S POV.🤯</div><div><br></div><div>  Let me tell you a little about my neighbor.</div><div><br></div><div> His name is Bradley Ashford, and he is thirty-two years old. He owns a small company that provides translation and linguistic validation services. The man is filthy rich, and it shows in everything about him, starting from his expensive suits, to his expensive cars and then, the very expensive house he'd bought and moved into almost a month ago, making him my new neighbor of course. </div><div><br></div><div>  But, the guy is always too serious. He never laughs, he hardly talks...hell, he hardly pays me any attention at all. Maybe that's why I love yanking his chains so much. I'm a talkative. And because I don't socialize a lot, I spend most of the time talking to myself. Hey, don't call me crazy. I'm far from 'C'....talk more of 'Razy'.</div><div><br></div><div>  My name is Miriam, by the way. Miriam Lopez. I am twenty-six years old and I'm a writer, so basically I spent almost every time of the day inside the house, and my face in front of my computer. I don't have a social life whatsoever. My mother is complaining that I don't have a personal life and that's she's gonna 'kick the bucket one-day without seeing her grandchildren'. I don't understand when Cassandra will get it into her head that she ain't dying anytime soon and that I'm not in a hurry to get myself saddled with a man. </div><div><br></div><div>  I know you're probably wondering why I'd call my mother Cass, but don't okay? The answer will just give you a headache just like it gives me. Anyway, I'm a successful fictional writer that enjoys her own company. Or used to. These days I'm starting to feel the solitude....the loneliness. </div><div><br></div><div>  So, I guess that was what sparked my interest three weeks ago when I heard from Mrs Nancy the house owner that she'd sold the beautiful cottage opposite mine. Mrs Nancy is a seventy-something-year-old widow who owns more than a few very expensive cottages in Ray-Estate. After her husband died ten years ago, she'd inherited everything. But now, she's selling and renting out most of the cottages because she's planning to move to a more peaceful town, Texas, to spend the rest of her days. </div><div><br></div><div>  "Rich. That's what the young man is, Mimi. He didn't even bargain for prize like some stingy wanna-be buyers and he reeked of money." Mrs Nancy has said with a cheeky grin one afternoon, as she ran her fingers through her gray hairs. </div><div><br></div><div>  Then, she'd frowned afterwards, "But, he's not much of a talker though. Barely said five words. His eyes seemed cold and standoffish, even though he was the image of politeness when he talked to me. He's a strange man." she'd concluded. </div><div><br></div><div>  Those words had piqued my interest. Or the interest of the writer in me. I still remember that day I met him for the first time. That was three weeks ago when I saw him coming out of his house with his suitcase. </div><div><br></div><div>  "Hey! Good morning. I live here...." I'd said, keeping my voice as cheerful as I could as I pointed to smaller cottage opposite his. "...so we're neighbors of some sort. It's nice meeting you, my name is Miriam and you are?" </div><div><br></div><div>  He'd looked at me with unreadable eyes for more than a few seconds that I actually started feeling self conscious. I know I'm no one's idea of a supermodel__I'm not as slim, but I'm no where near being fat too__I'm on the slim side, my hips are a bit too much and my breasts are C cups going to D. They're a little too big, coupled with the hips, it wasn't even funny. Also, I noticed that I didn't run a comb through my hair before I came out of the house. I couldn't even begin to imagine what I looked like. </div><div><br></div><div>  But hey, that still wasn't the reason for the arrogant new neighbor to keep scrutinizing me with his cold eyes! </div><div><br></div><div>  "You know what? Forget I asked anyway. I don't care what your name is, and I won't be surprise if it's 'Arrogant'. It has a nice ring to it, and people can actually shorten it to 'Arro' or even 'Roga'." I'd said then, feeling a little angry because he made me feel self conscious. Reminded me of my ex.</div><div><br></div><div>  New neighbor lifted his eyebrow__eyebrows that are too perfect for a man__and stared at me. He still didn't say anything to me. </div><div><br></div><div>  I huffed, turned and walked back into my house. Courtesy be damned! </div><div><br></div><div> After that terrible first meeting, I went back to my room, using my laptop, I researched my new neighbor. That was how I found that everything I could about him, including the shocking news of his recent divorce. He was recently divorced three months ago. </div><div><br></div><div>  Three days later, I looked out of the window from my room and saw him coming out again with his suitcase, walking purposely to his car, I came out again and tried to make amends about our first meeting but the man stood there and glared at me as usual. Not even bothering to hide the look that screams "I don't like you, woman, and I'd rather be anywhere than here staring at you."</div><div><br></div><div>  I bristled and huffed angrily. The man didn't have to make it so obvious that he hated me. I'm a writer, a very good one at that. I'm very good at reading people and way better at reading expressions. While Bradley's expression was always closed off and guarded making it hard to read, other times, he just couldn't hide how much he hated that I was talking to him and it rankled. </div><div><br></div><div>  So, for the next three weeks that followed since he moved in, I officially became a pain in his ass. Or in our case, a pain in his neighborhood. He's the only neighbor around here for fuck'ssake and it wouldn't do that he's ignoring me at all. </div><div><br></div><div>  I made it my personal mission to stop him every morning whenever I see him with his suitcase striding to his car. I've lost count how many times I've done it in the past three weeks, and even though he's never said a word to me, it doesn't matter. I do most of the talking, delaying him while he stands beside his flashy obviously expensive SUV and glared at her. </div><div><br></div><div>  I really hate to admit it, but I've gotten kind-of obsessed with yanking his chains. You really can't blame me, it's been so lonely around here and he's the only person for miles who lives close to me. </div><div><br></div><div>  Now, three weeks later, I looked out of my window again. A-ha! He's out of the house! Finally. I'm feeling so excited. I actually thought he won't be coming out today. Still in my pajamas, I rushed out of my room and out of my house, slipping my leg into my pink matching pajamas slippers, I was away from my house and across the street. As usual he saw me coming and turned to look at me. But, I noticed a few difference today. </div><div><br></div><div>  He had a phone to his ear and I didn't think it was possible but his eyes were glaring harder at me today. Maybe he thought that I'll take it as a clue and leave him alone today. </div><div><br></div><div>  Ha!
