EPISODE 3. HE'S AVOIDING ME!? 🙄😏

     💁MIRIAM😎

I'm working on a new book. I've been at it for just a month, so basically it's still a new book. It's a horror novel to be precise.

My nose was still buried in front of my laptop when I heard my phone ring. I was so engrossed in what I was writing that I wasn't aware of it ringing just like it's always be. I got up from my study chair and walked to the nightstand. I withdrew my phone, and sighed as I stared at it. Cassandra is calling.

I really love my mother, but sometimes, answering her calls always mess with my head, and considering what I'm doing at the moment, I need my thoughts and mind together. But, I still know that I'll answer it anyway. I pressed the answer button.

"You got lost in yourself again, Mimi! That's why you didn't even know that I was calling." My mother's familiar voice rang in my ears and I rolled my eyes. I didn't need to say anything at that one.

"Good afternoon to you too, Cass. How are you doing today?" I said cheerfully to keep her mind off the next thing I can predict she wanted to say.

I heard her exhale slowly and I smiled, because I know that she will dropped the topic. For now.

"I'm doing fine around here. Just enjoying the nice air in Folsom City....Aaaah, this feels so good." she breathed out the last.

I stared at the phone with a smile on my face. "Are you getting a massage?"

"Of course. What else can an old lady do." she paused for seconds while I rolled my eyes. Then, she threw the bomb. "There's this nice young man that---"

I cut her off, "Jesus Christ, I knew it'll be impossible for this call to keep going without 'there being this nice young man', seriously mother!"

I can hear her huffing and puffing, "Well, what else do you want me to talk about? You're twenty-six years old, Mimi. We're not getting younger anymore!"

I know she's trying to sound angry, and she's failing miserably. I couldn't help the smile that formed my lips. I'm amused, but she shouldn't know. "I'm twenty-six not forty-five, thank you very much, mother. You're the one who's forty-five, and if you really think WE ain't getting any younger, then go get married, I'll happily cheer you on."

She went silent. But knowing my mother, the silence never lasts.

"Just once. See him just once, Mimi. If you don't wanna have anything to do with him, I'll respect your decision." she said.

I inhaled sharply. "You've already set me up with him, right? I knew it. I knew you've set a blind date for me again, even after you promised that it won't happen again! Mother!" This time around I wasn't amused. After the last disastrous blind date, Cass finally admitted that she sucks at matchmaking, and promised she won't try to set me on dates again.

"It's only this one last time. I won't do it again, I promise!" she paused before she added, "And call me my name, young lady, not mother. You've said it twice now!" she added.

Even though I wanna stay angry at her, I know that I can't. It's been just her and I for as long as I can remember. "I'm sorry, but you owe me an apology too."

"I'm sorry for setting you on another date." she said and I could mentally see her biting her lips, before she added, "But you'll be going, right?"

If I say no, she'll start lecturing me on how rude and unladylike it is to keep a man standing and so on. "I'll go. But only this one last time." I added when she gasped in happiness.

"That's good enough for me. Oh, thank you so much, Mimi. Don't worry, you'll like this one. It's on Saturday. Same place as the last and same time. Oh, and don't be late this time around." she added, excitedly.

After I hung up the call, I glared hard at my phone. My mother really sucks at matchmaking. But, it doesn't stop her from trying. Well, it's still five days to Saturday anyway.

     😡BRADLEY😒

"This is your room." I said quietly, showing Dave into his room that I've already had prepared for him.

He entered into the room and looked around, then he turned and smiled up at me. "I like it, daddy."

I nodded, joining him in the room, I walked to the wardrobe and dropped his bags inside it. "Change into something comfortable and join me in the dinning room for lunch."

"Okay, daddy." he said, still looking at me. He didn't even make any move to start pulling his clothes. Even as I turned to walk out of the room, he was still staring at me as if I'll disappear if he stops looking.

I walked back to him and sat on my hunches, to become the same height with him. I held his small hands, "I'm not going anywhere, Dave. At least, not for some time." I raised one large hand and rested it to his cheek, "I know I've not always been there for you, but I'm here now. And I'll always be here for you from now on."

His lower lips trembled slightly. Then, he wrapped his arms around my neck tight. "Promise?"

I swallowed hard against the lump in my throat. "Cross my heart." I swore. I've already considered getting a live-in housekeeper in the house to help with cooking, cleaning and other stuffs, but I reconsidered because I wanted to spent some bonding time with my son. Instead I got a part-time housekeeper that'll be coming two times in a week.

"Love you, daddy." he whispered, still clinging to my neck.

I don't mind that he was clingy at all, even though he's a boy and will one-day grow up to be a man that should stand on his own.

Having had a father that was hardly there for him and a heartless bitch for a mother, it's obvious Dave has been starved for attention and affection. I promise to make up for all that.

I stared at his cute flawless face. I stopped seeing handprints on his body when I started fighting to gain custody of him in court three months ago, because I threatened Ashley that I'll lock her up in jail if I see a scratch on him again. How a mother can be so wicked to her own flesh and blood is beyond me.

I ruffled his curly hair, "Love you too, buddy." I breathed deeply and rose up to my full height with his arms still around my neck, "You know what? Let's go eat lunch now, afterwards I'll help you change."

Dave smiled into his shoulder, "Okay, Daddy."

It is Wednesday morning. I've not seen my neighbor for two mornings and It made me wonder if he's around. I've been looking out of my window, but I haven't seen him. I guess it's perfectly normal if he's gone on another business trip. It's either that, or he's avoiding me. Again.

I don't know what gave the man any idea that he can avoid me, anyway. It's one thing that he doesn't talk to me and it's another thing altogether that he's avoiding me!

I was still sulking when I got a call from Aunt Diane. She's my mother's only sibling, and she's in her mid thirties. She has a seven-year-old daughter, Daphne. Since then, she and her husband has been trying for another child, but without success. Until recently.

Aunt Diane is nine months pregnant and will be giving birth anytime from now. During our call, she told me all about the complications she's been having lately.

"Ed and I are getting scared." she said on the phone, "It's still way too early, and I've had two fake labors. The doctor said that it does happen sometimes, but it's still scaring me. I'd really like it if you'll come take Daphne to stay with you for just a little while until I'm sure that everything's alright or until I give birth. We've left her all on her own twice now in this big house...." she trailed off.

I could hear the worry in her voice, so I was fast to answer her, "Don't worry, I'll come take Daphne this evening. About the pregnancy, don't worry much, aunt. You'll be just fine....you and Edward junior."

I heard her sigh, "I really hope so, Mimi. You know how long we've waited for this baby. Now, he's finally here and----"

I cut in, "He's finally here and everything will fine. Have a little faith, aunt. About Daphne, expect me in the evening."

Then, I'd hung up. I walked to my window and looked out again to Bradley's cottage. I smiled with excitement. If anybody can get me up close and personal with him....if anyone could get him to start talking to me, it's Daphne. That little girl has always been very very smart, and quite mischievous. She'll make a good partner in crime.

"Yes!" I smiled, excitedly. "Oh, you wait for it, you arrogant dumbstruck cold-looking asshole. You'll be getting a healthy dose of the Mimi medicine. Just wait for me."

A plan started forming in my head.

What can the plan be?😂
